Cousins

Emily is lucky to have several cousins to grow up with. Other than her cousin Allison, Emily is the only girl ans she is also the youngest of them all. Giovanni is my sister's baby and he is 7 months old. Since they are so close in age, I hope they will be good buddies and entertain eachother and play together as they get older.

Emily's 2 month check up

On March 11th, Emily had her 2 month baby wellness check up and her first round of vaccines...I had been dreading this since I scheduled her appointment and I asked Jason to come along incase we (I) needed him. Emily had no idea what was about to happen so she was a happy camper. She was just waking from a nap and was all smiles while we waited to be called in.

When Emily was examined by the nurse she was cooperative and semmed to enjoy being there. Our sweet Emily weighs 11.6 pounds and is 22 and 3/4 inches long. She is doing great and growing like a bean stock. Dr. Vance said she is doing very well and encouraged us to continue tummy time so her neck muscles keep getting stronger. The last part of the exam was the hardest, so the nurse started with the first dose which is given orally.

Luckily she didn't mind this one. In fact, I think she liked the flavor.

Then she received THREE pokes on her chubby thighs

Miss Emily was non too happy. Her sweet smile turned into a frown and then a sad cry

My sweet baby girl is such a trooper. By the time we got in the car she was sleeping in her car seat and did well throughout the evening and night. She did not have a reaction to the vaccines, but we gave her a little Tylenol-just in case... Im grateful Emily is healthy and has access to medical care and vaccines that will protect her from certain viruses/illnesses. In this day and age I do not take this fact for granted and pray that all children have the same opportunity. Luckily, we don't go back for more pokes until Emily is four months old (*sigh*).

She melts my heart

Our Sweet Emily is now smiling, and it's the most beautiful site! As a new mother, everyhting she does is adorable and cute, but when I saw her smile at me for the first time, it just blew me away. I was so excited and elated at that moment, it made the sleepless nights so worth it.

Beautiful!

Look at me smile

Mile Stones

We hit 6 weeks old this past weekend, and what a weekend.  Started with Emily getting her first dinner out at a restaurant.  Where did we go?  Hana Japan, so she got to see the knife flipping and food tossing for her first meal.  I found myself being a little protective as the guy lit the onion volcano of flame, but soon lightened up a little.

One month check up

Miss Emily had her one month baby-wellness check up today. Her pediatrician was very pleased with her progress. Her current stats are: 9.7lbs (75th percentile), 22 inches long (90th percentile), and 14.5 inches head circumference (50th percentile). Our baby girl is strong and healthy-bless the good Lord!!! Emily does not know this, but at her next baby wellness check up, she will have her first set of shots. Jason will have to be there because I might need more support than Emily!

Happy One Month!

Today Emily is one month old. We can't believe it's been a month since she entered our world. We can't imagine life without her and feel blesssed she chose us to be her parents. She continues to sleep, poop and eat like a champ (just yesterday she took 4 ounces of breast milk and when that did not quench her appetite, we had to give her 2 more ounces of formula). She is sleeping a little better at night, but has fussy moments here and there when she is digesting her food. Her pediatrician said this is normal for a newborn and she will eventually grow out of it. Jason does a really good impression of her facial expression when she is "working it out".

She sleeps throughout the day and night and wakes up about twice during the night for food and a diaper change. So far, Emily can hold her head up and look around. We are staring to put her on tummy-time and she enjoys her rocker and will chill out for up to 15-20 minutes at a time; she even takes naps in it. She is also starting to track objects with her eyes, so its fun to play with her and have her follow colorful toys with her beautiful blue eyes.

Sleep Deprivation

Every parent you talk to comments about the lack of sleep as a result of a newborn baby, infant, and toddler needing something in the middle of the night. Well Jeymmy and I are experiencing this for sure. Emily can't decide when she wants to sleep. Some night she strings along 5 hours of sleep, others we are luck with 2. I am told things will get a little more regular soon enough, lets hope so. Last night Emily fell asleep after feeding aeound 1030pm and did not wake up until 230am. 4 solid hours is great! But then it took until almost 445am for Jeymmy to get her to go back to sleep after changing and feeding her...and changing again and feeding again...yep then a little more feeding. But thru it all Emily is still very adorable.
